Brief relevant history

I am a scientist with 40+ years very-wide experience of translating Spanish (from any Spanish-speaking area), Portuguese (from any Portuguese-speaking area), and Galician and French into English in a broad range of fields (and also Italian and Catalan into English however, in the case of this language pair, solely official certificates and chemical texts).

In the past, inter alia I have held the positions of:

  • Visiting lecturer in technical and specialised translation from Spanish and Portuguese into English at the University of Westminster, the course leading to an MA. Subsequently external examination assessor.
  • Principal partner in a translation agency, and owner of an insurance brokerage.
  • University lecturer and research team leader in Organic Chemistry at the Universidad de Chile, Chile (working medium and medium of instruction entirely in the Spanish language).
  • Silicone development chemist, and subsequently silicone development team leader, in high-temperature one-part cold-curing sealants and adhesives, two-part cold-curing rubbers, and heat-curing electrically-conductive rubber.
  • Assistant pilot plant manager (silicone rubbers, adhesives, sealants, pastes and similar products), with first-hand involvement in their development, scale-up, and manufacturing.
  • Technical marketing executive in speciality silicone surface-treatments for synthetic fibres and textiles and two-part cold-curing rubbers, with client-visiting responsibilities in Austria, Hungary, Italy, Slovak Republic, Spain and the UK.
  • Apart from the extensive experience gained in many specialist fields whilst undertaking translations, I have also been involved in interpreting in a wide range of specialised client and other third-party installations, e.g. industrial & academic technical & scientific laboratories, pilot plants, factories, workshops, mines, steelworks, engine-testing facilities, coldstore installations, food-processing units, food packaging manufacturing units, forensic science units, securities printing-works, construction sites, etc, etc, and at exhibitions/trade fairs.

Language of habitual use: Spanish at home, English (mothertongue) outside home.

I am joint author of papers published in the scientific literature, and am quoted as inventor in patents, alone or jointly with others.
